Our Expert Woodcare Tips

Wooden surfaces, whether floors, worktops, or furniture, are a beautiful and timeless addition to any space. However, to ensure they remain looking their best and stand the test of time, it’s essential to care for them properly. This guide provides expert advice on how to prevent damage, clean, and maintain your wooden surfaces to preserve their natural beauty.

Damage Prevention

Preventing damage to wooden surfaces is key to keeping them looking pristine. By taking simple precautions, you can avoid scratches, stains, and other forms of wear and tear.

Protect Your Furniture and Objects:

All furniture should be fitted with felt pads to avoid scratches when moved. This is especially important for chairs, tables, and heavy furniture.

Items with rough or abrasive bases, such as chopping boards, flowerpots, or tea containers, can damage surfaces over time. Place small rubber or felt pads on the bases of these objects to protect your wood.

Mop Up Spills Immediately:

Liquid spills, particularly water, can damage wood if left for too long. Wipe up any spills promptly to avoid stains or warping.

When mopping, ensure the mop is slightly damp, never soaking wet. Excess moisture can seep into the wood and cause irreversible damage.

Avoid Aggressive Cleaners:

Do not use bleach, ammonia, or other harsh chemicals on your wooden surfaces. Similarly, steam cleaners should never be used, as excessive heat and moisture can cause the wood to expand and warp.

Use a Chopping Board:

Always use a chopping board when preparing food. Cutting directly on wooden worktops can lead to permanent knife marks and scratches.

Protect Floors from Dirt:

Place a high-quality doormat at entrances to trap dirt and grit, which can act like sandpaper and scratch your floors when walked on.

Surface Cleaning

Regular cleaning is essential to maintain the appearance of your wooden surfaces. Dirt, dust, and grit can cause long-term damage if left unchecked. Here’s how to keep your surfaces spotless:

Remove Dust and Grit Regularly:

Use a damp cloth, microfibre mop, or a vacuum cleaner with a soft attachment to remove dust and dirt. These tools will help protect the finish of your wood by preventing abrasive particles from causing scratches.

If your surface appears dull or dirty, clean it using Treatex Spray On Floor & Surface Cleaner or Treatex Floor Care.

Using Treatex Spray On Floor & Surface Cleaner:

Treatex Spray On Floor & Surface Cleaner is a ready-to-use solution that quickly cleans surfaces treated with Treatex Hardwax Oil. This product not only cleans but also replenishes and protects the surface with a thin layer of vegetable oils and Carnauba wax.

To use, simply spray lightly onto the surface and wipe clean with a cloth or mop. It’s perfect for a quick and convenient clean, keeping your wood looking fresh.

Using Treatex Floor Care:

Treatex Floor Care is a concentrate designed to clean and maintain floors. Dilute 25-50ml of the concentrate in 5 litres of water, then use a damp mop or a slow buffing machine with a white pad to clean your wood floors. Be sure not to overuse the product, as too much can cause the floor to become slippery. If this happens, simply wash the surface with water 2-3 times to restore the wax level.

Surface Maintenance

Over time, even the best-maintained wood will begin to show signs of wear. Regular maintenance can help restore and rejuvenate the surface, extending its lifespan.

Renovating Worn Surfaces with Treatex Preparation Cleaner:

Treatex Preparation Cleaner is a powerful cleaner designed to remove dirt, grease, and other contaminants from wooden surfaces. It prepares the wood for a fresh application of wax or oil, but should only be used when a more thorough cleaning is required, as it removes some of the existing wax finish.

Restoring with Treatex Wax Polish:

Treatex Wax Polish is the ideal solution for rejuvenating tired or worn wooden surfaces. It’s easy to apply and is based on natural, sustainable raw materials such as Linseed oil, Sunflower oil, Jojoba oil, Beeswax, Carnauba wax, and Candelilla wax.

Apply the Treatex Wax Polish with a lint-free cloth or buff it in using a slow machine with a white pad. The result is a water-repellent, non-slip finish that not only restores the surface’s shine but also enhances its durability.
