Colour Tones (Ultra)

Here at Treatex, we love that every wooden surface has its own unique character. It is the grains and textures that give your doors, flooring, worktops and stairs a sense of real individuality. However, we also understand that these surfaces need to suit your home, existing in unison with the style and colours of the space.

Treatex Colour Tones strike the perfect balance, penetrating deep into the timber to provide an impressively natural finish, every time. Utilising natural pigments and sustainable raw materials, Treatex Colour Tones are available in a number of natural wood colours, so you can match your surfaces, without losing the original beauty of the wood.

Colours are representative only and will vary based on the display they are viewed on. We always recommend trialling a sample first to ensure you are happy with the colour as timbers will react in different ways.

2.5L will cover approximately 50m² in one coat depending on the timber and method of application.

Please note!
Clear Hardwax Oil must always be used as the final coat when Natural Hardwax Oil or Colour Tones are applied*

*Natural can be used as a top coat with Spruce Colour Tone to achieve a pure bright white (see: Hardwax Oil Natural).

Preparation/Application

Preparation

Start by sanding the surface to smooth bare wood using 80-120 grit sandpaper, ensuring all previous finish and contaminants are removed. Make sure the surface is thoroughly dried before application and ensure you have enough Colour Tones Ultra for the whole project. If using multiple tins, it is advised to mix them together before use. We advise a small trial application, as oak colour stains will take to various species of timber differently.

Application

  1. Roll or brush one coat of Colour Tones Ultra on. Just one coat is necessary as a second coat will only slightly deepen the colour.

  2. Remove excess product with a lint-free cloth to ensure an even and correct drying. Drying should take around 3-6 hours if warmth and ventilation are maintained.

  3. Once dry, seal with two coats of Treatex Hardwax Oil Ultra Clear. This will prevent the natural pigments from fading.

Tips

  • All of our Colour Tones can be mixed.

  • Treatex brushes and rollers are available. Alternatively, use a short gloss pile roller or good quality brush. Wet brushes and rollers can be cleaned using white spirit.

  • To speed up drying, raise room temperature and increase air flow by opening doors, windows and using a fan.

  • For a brighter white seal our Spruce Colour Tone with two coats of Treatex Hardwax Oil Ultra Natural instead of Clear Hardwax Oil (see: Treatex Hardwax Oil Natural).
