The colour samples below show Treatex Colour Tones applied to both a hardwood (LEFT) and softwood (RIGHT).

Colours are representative only and will vary based on the display they are viewed on. We always recommend trialling a sample first to ensure you are happy with the colour as timbers will react in different ways.
Suitable for: Internal use
Recommended timbers: Most species of timber. For Colour Tone Ultra Natural: Most lighter coloured timbers e.g. Oak, Ash, Beech, Birch, Maple, Sycamore etc. (Pines/softwoods may be better treated with Treatex Colour Tone Ultra Spruce, followed by Hardwax Oil Ultra Clear.
Applications: Floors, doors, stairs, worktops, skirting, furniture, table tops, wood turning, wood toys, instruments
0.5L will cover approximately 10m² in one coat depending on the timber and method of application.
1L will cover approximately 20m² in one coat depending on the timber and method of application.
2.5L will cover approximately 50m² in one coat depending on the timber and method of application.
Please note!
Clear Hardwax Oil must always be used as the final coat when Hardwax Oil Soft White or Colour Tones are applied*
Preparation
Start by sanding the surface to smooth bare wood using 80-120 grit sandpaper, ensuring all previous finish and contaminants are removed. Make sure the surface is thoroughly dried before application and ensure you have enough Colour Tones Ultra for the whole project. If using multiple tins, it is advised to mix them together before use. We advise a small trial application, as colour stains will take to various species of timber differently.
Application
Roll or brush one coat of Colour Tones Ultra on. Just one coat is necessary as a second coat will only slightly deepen the colour.
Remove excess product with a lint-free cloth to ensure an even and correct drying. Drying should take around 3-6 hours if warmth and ventilation are maintained.
Once dry, seal with two coats of Treatex Hardwax Oil Ultra Clear. This will prevent the natural pigments from fading.
Treatex Hardwax Oil Clear should be applied after using colour tones
All of our Colour Tones can be mixed.
Treatex brushes and rollers are available. Alternatively, use a short gloss pile roller or good quality brush. Wet brushes and rollers can be cleaned using white spirit.
To speed up drying, raise room temperature and increase air flow by opening doors, windows and using a fan.
