Preparation/Application

Preparation

Treatex Cedar Oil works best on unfinished timber. If there are previous finishes, make sure they are fully removed before applying the cedar wood finish. Also ensure surfaces are lightly sanded and free from any contaminants such as dirt, decay, mould, dust etc. Ensure you have enough cedar wood treatment for the whole task, and if using more than one tin it is advisable to mix them together before use.

The temperature must be between 8-25 degrees celsius during application and drying while ensuring the timber has a moisture content below 18%. We also advise a trial application before starting the project.

Application

  1. Ensure Treatex Cedar Oil is stirred thoroughly both before and during use.

  2. Use a roller or brush to evenly apply the cedar wood finish, ensuring it is applied in the same direction as the wood grain. Apply liberally on the end grain.

  3. Leave for 12 hours before applying a second coat, then leave another 12 hours to dry.

Tips

●      Treatex brushes and rollers are available.

●      Clean wet brushes and rollers with Treatex Thinner or white spirit.

●      Tins should be stored in a cool and frost free environment and will last for five years unopened. Once opened, transfer tin contents to smaller airtight containers.

Bringing life back to silvered Cedar cladding

Need a little convincing? See the results for yourself! The following images were sent in by a satisfied customer after treating their town football club with Treatex Cedar Oil.

After more than 7 years without treatment, the building’s cladding was in need of some serious TLC. The timber was sanded before 2 coats of Treatex Cedar Oil were applied.

The second photograph was taken over a year after the application. Impressive!
