1L covers approximately 25m² in one coat depending on the timber and method of application*
*Rough sawn timbers will increase consumption by a factor of 2 to 3. It is advisable to sand the timber surface first to create a smoother area to apply to OR speak to one of the Team at Treatex to discuss further options to improve coverage.
Preparation
This product works best on unfinished timber. Previously porous finishes should be thoroughly cleaned or lightly sanded with all flaking and peeling removed before application. Ensure the surface is dry and free from any contaminants. Make sure you buy sufficient product to complete the whole project and mix multiple tins together before use to achieve the same finish.
If you find decay, mould or fungi, this should be treated first with Treatex Preservative. Exterior timbers with high tannin levels should be treated with Treatex Stain Inhibitor. Timber must have a moisture content below 18% and the temperature should be between 8 and 24 degrees celsius during application and drying.
Application
Make sure the tin/tins are stirred thoroughly before and during use.
Use a brush or roller to evenly apply the Treatex Classic Colour Collection, moving in the same direction as the wood grain. If possible apply the first coat to all sides of the wood before installation, paying particular attention to any end grain. Apply liberally on the end grain to fully seal.
After 12 hours of drying, a second coat can be applied. After this coat, leave for approximately 12-24 hours to dry. A third coat may be needed if applying a light colour to dark timber.
Treatex brushes and rollers are available. Wet brushes and rollers can be cleaned with Treatex Thinner or white spirit. Store tins in a cool and frost free environment. Unopened tins will last for five years. Once tins are opened, transfer contents to smaller airtight container. For a different sheen level on internal timbers Treatex Classic Colour Collection can be overcoated with Treatex Hardwax Oil Clear Matt, Satin or Gloss.

The deck to be treated has to be porous, like softwood and should be weathered, clean and dry. For very old decks clean using Treatex Rejuvenator first.
The deck must be thoroughly dry before treating. Mix 10% of Treatex Thinners with the Classic Colour.
Before application, we strongly recommend a trial area is undertaken.
Apply 2 coats of the classic colour thinly and evenly along the grain allowing 6 – 12 hours between coats.
Although not essential, we recommend the deck is finished with 1 coat of Treatex Exterior oil or Treatex Anti slip decking oil.
Ultimate toughness is achieved after 5 days, however, the deck can be used carefully after 12 hours.

Treatex Classic Colour Collection can be applied to metal objects.
The object to be painted needs to be dry and free from dust and loose particles. Rust does not need to be removed completely, only loose material with a stiff brush. If the surface is very smooth, provide a light key using 150 grit sand paper or wet and dry paper.
Apply Treatex Classic Colour Collection as per usual but don’t try and apply a thick coat. Allow to dry thoroughly before applying a second coat.
Please follow these instructions in conjunction with the ones on our website and the tin.
Disclaimer: We strongly advise that a test area is applied first to ensure that you are happy with the result and that the metal will accept the finish. We have only tested on a number of metallic garden items and would always air on the side of caution when approaching a major project. Treatex offers no warranty or guarantee when Classic Colour Collection is applied to metal but we will offer our usual high level of guidance and experience if you have any questions.
